It’s never over until the handshake at the very end of a match!
This holds true in tennis, most recently for new team Volkl player Kelsey Stevenson. After traveling to a challenger in Winnipeg in the hopes of even getting into the tournament, the Canadian tennis player signed up last minute with a partner he’d never joined forces with before (Harris); and in the first round, they were on the brink of defeat. Together they saved a total of a whopping eight match points, one of which was an absolutely thrilling exchange between all four players on court.
The comeback must have fueled their confidence levels, as Stevenson and Harris then proceeded to knock out everyone else in the draw – including some top 100-ranked foes – en route to winning their first challenger title and the biggest one yet of Stevenson’s career.
“It’s been a pretty surreal week for me!” says the 32-year-old of the winning week in Winnipeg, which has catapulted him more than 200 spots to a career-high ranking of 329 on the ATP doubles tour! Congrats Kelsey, and keep climbing! Kelsey even just had the chance to compete in the Canadian Open, this time in singles, falling to former top-5 player Fognini.
